It’s been a busy and rewarding term for our Year 7s in Junior Woodwork. Students have tackled the challenge of building their own desk tidies, gaining hands-on experience in a range of essential skills. From accurately measuring and marking out, to safely gluing, nailing, drilling, sanding and shaping timber, students have navigated each step with growing independence.

What’s been especially impressive is the way students have supported one another—sharing ideas, asking questions and helping classmates through challenges. For many, this has been their first time using tools like the drill press or working with timber and they’ve approached each task with a positive attitude and genuine curiosity.

A real highlight has been experimenting with the desktop laser machine. Students have designed and added personalised touches to their desk tidies, making each project truly unique. The creativity and pride on display have been fantastic to see.

I’d like to congratulate the entire class on their teamwork, effort and willingness to try new things. It’s been a pleasure to watch students grow in confidence and skill, and most importantly, to see them enjoying the process of making something with their own hands.
