GRADE 7 REPORT:

Celebrations

Mr Murray and the class leaders are supporting the Benevolent Society and have brought the can drive to Grade 7 classrooms! Non-perishable food items may be brought from home to contribute to the charity. Taking it one step further, this will be an inter-class challenge where the class teacher group whose collective items weigh the most will win a prize! Good luck to all class teacher groups and congratulations to Mr Murray and class leaders for bringing such an important charity into Kings Meadows High School.

It has been fantastic to see so many donations of non-perishable items brought into each class teacher group over the past few weeks. Just a reminder that our inter-class competition is running until the end of the term where the class teacher winner will be announced during our end of Term 3 assembly.

Grade Focus

Our focus continues to be around our ROCKS expectations with particular attention to Keeping Safe, Sensible Behaviour and Organisation. Students are reminded every Monday in our grade assemblies about their commitment to the ROCKS. We are beginning to see improvements in student organisation and will continue to work with students around our hands-off policy. We would greatly appreciate parents having conversation at home about the dangers of play fighting and rough play.

Over the past month we have had an organisation blitz in Grade 7 where teachers have been identifying students who are either late to class or unorganised, this includes having their iPad charged ready for learning. Students who are identified as being unorganised or who are late to class are messaged on CANVAS by either Miss Males or Mrs Hume to let them know they have a lunchtime detention the next day.

We have seen some improvement with our student organisation (see table and graph below). However, have a number of students who are still struggling with having basic equipment e.g. pen, ruler, charged iPad with them during class. We would appreciate if parents/carers would discuss organisation strategies with Grade 7 students because it is important that they build good organisation habits now which will benefit them in the long term.

Grade 7 goal:  No more than 15 students unorganised for class.

Notable items from assembly:

Reminders:

  • Leaving school without permission. Students have been reminded this week that once they are on school site they are not permitted to leave without permission or being signed out by a parent and the front office.
  • Drawing on self. Staff have recently noticed an increase in student drawing on their bodies with pen. This is not sensible behaviour and students have been reminded of this.
  • Chewing gum is not permitted at school.
  • Mobile phone ‘off and away’ policy, students were reminded that mobile phones must stay in lockers and school bags. Students are permitted to briefly check their device at recess and lunchtime. If any urgent messages need to be communicated to students please contact our school office on 6343 1000.
  • During HPE practical lessons students are required to have a change of clothes preferably their Kings Meadows High School sports uniform (white polo top, navy shorts or track pants). Students must come to school in full school uniform, get changed into HPE gear during their lesson at school (there is time allocated for this during the lesson) and then get changed back into their full school uniform at the end of the lesson. Students must arrive and leave school in full school uniform.
