GRADE 9 REPORT:
Celebrations
I would like to start by saying thank you for the warm welcome I have received at Kings Meadows High School. Staff and students have been so helpful in assisting me in my new role, I am very grateful for the support.
Students in Grade 9 have been enjoying a range of in class and out of class experiences over the past few weeks. The Grade 9 cohort was well represented at our recent Kings Meadows High School cross country. There were some outstanding efforts on the day and the staff wish to congratulate all who participated in making the day a success. Because of a change to the course, the students who placed first in their races now currently hold course records, which is a memorable achievement.
During our recent whole school assembly, several of our Grade 9 students were formally recognised as literacy leaders. The Literacy Leaders are a select group of students who are tasked with the responsibility of mentoring some of our Grade 7 students with their literacy skills. It is a great way for our students to showcase their literacy and leadership skills. Well done to those students who are involved in this program.
A number of Grade 9 students have been selected to be involved in the Polish program. This program is coordinated by the Beacon Foundation and assists students in the transition from school through to the workplace via the development of competencies in a range of ’21 Century Skills’. The program is proving to be highly engaging and the students recognise the authentic learnings that they can take away from these sessions.
During our Grade 9 My Education Day, students participated in a range of activities that will assist them in preparing for life in the workplace. They learnt what it takes to be successful in a job interview, what employers are looking for in employees and the personal attributes and skills required to be successful on the job site. The students embraced these opportunities and saw value in these activities by making connections to their own lives.
Grade Focus
In our recent grade meeting, we spoke about the importance of maintaining high standards. Mr Stokes spoke about our schoolwide expectations around uniform and speaking respectfully so this will be a focus for the next period of time.
