GRADE 10 REPORT:

    Celebrations

With only a couple of weeks left of second term, we are fast moving to the business end of 2021. Last week saw the second of our My Education Days for Term 2. This day centred around preparing our students for their college orientation days at Newstead and Launceston Colleges as well as getting some valuable information from guest speakers Will, from the Australian Maritime College, Kate, from the Tasmanian Hospitality Industry, Madi, from the University of Tasmania Launceston Campus and Will, from Tasmanian Tafe. All our guest speakers provided us with some invaluable information which will help our students make some important decisions about their pathways post Kings Meadows High School.

At the end of this month we have our two College open days. Our Grade 10s will be visiting Launceston College on Monday June 21 and Newstead College on Thursday June 24. Last week's My Education Day allowed our Grade 10's to select subjects and courses to investigate whilst at the college. These college visits should give our students insight and information regarding possible courses for Years 11 and 12. If parents wish to gain more information about what each college offers, both colleges have websites with videos, course selection guides and information about their campuses.

Within the classroom our Grade 10 students are continuing with their academic rigour this term. In English students are continuing a unit of work on the topic of Macbeth. In Science our students are completing a module on Physics centred around motor vehicles. HaSS students are studying and focussing on the World War 2. In HPE practical lessons students are completing a team sport unit focusing on Rugby. For this unit Rugby Tas will be coming in and taking some sessions. In Health lessons where are undertaking work based around mental health.  Mathematics classes have our students working on equation solving and moving into quadratics.

Our student leaders hosted our first full school celebration assembly last week. This required a significant amount of hard work and preparation. Thank you to all those students who prepared speeches and spoke in this assembly, you all did an amazing job. Congratulations to our assembly prefect Lachlan, for preparing the Power Point, scripts and finalising the assembly running order, your first assembly was well prepared. During this assembly our True Blue award winner for Term 1 was announced. Congratulations to Bryce Stone on a great start to the year and for winning this prestigious award.

This week our Grade 10's received their mid term reports. These reports are a progress report from the work undertaking in both Term 1 and 2. Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to have Progress Conference meetings with teachers starting on 21st June. We encourage all parents to utilise this opportunity to meet with their child’s teachers.

At the end of this month we will be handing out to students their Grade 10 Agreement letter. This letter outlines the end of year activities that will be on offer for our students and the pre-requisites we require for those agreements to be met. In preparation for this agreement we have been reinforcing the high expectations we set of our students regarding uniform, academic rigour, behaviour, and attendance.

    Grade Focus

Our Grade focus this term will be preparing for the transition from Grade 10 to further education.  We will be setting ourselves goals that challenge us and establishing good learning behaviours and academic rigour in all classes.
