PRINCIPAL'S REPORT:
Celebrating Student Success
Last Friday we held Celebratory Morning Teas for students who have recently received commendations for their outstanding application and effort towards their studies. It was wonderful to be able to congratulate these students with a morning tea and we are so incredibly proud of their application and efforts, certainly upholding our R.O.C.K.S. expectations around Commitment to Learning and modelling our values of Aspiration, Courage and Growth as they continue to strive for these outstanding results. Well done to all those students who were invited and attended.
Sanitary Products in Schools
As part of a student led initiative the State Government, have supported the free and easy access to sanitary products in schools. This is incredibly important and part of our continued way to support student wellbeing. Whilst we have always had this support available for our students if needed, it is great to see this initiative being rolled out across the state. Our School Health Nurse, Danni and Jasmine our Social Worker, will be working with our students to determine how we can improve our model of access. Details to come once student voice has been sought along with an investigation around possible distribution methods.
COVID Update
With the recent events in Launceston quarantine highlighting the unpredictable nature of the current pandemic, it is timely to consider what this means for us at Kings Meadows High School.
The current risk of an outbreak in Tasmania is very real.
As a school, we are asking students and families to abide by the changes we put in place in 2020 to mitigate any likelihood of community transmission. At Kings Meadows High School this means:
- Keep your children home if they are unwell, particularly if they exhibit respiratory like symptoms, coughs, colds and flu-like symptoms.
- Have yourselves or your children tested if you or they have any respiratory like symptoms.
- Avoid sending your children back to school if they are unwell, even if they are COVID free.
- When visiting our site, check in at the main office, maintain physical distancing and abide by the maximum room limits displayed.
- If on-site for any events like parent teacher, cross-country or athletics please sign in using the “Check-In Tas” App. These QR codes are located around our school during parent events.
- Sanitise when entering our site.
- Students are to use sanitiser located in all our classrooms at the beginning of each lesson.
- Follow any stay at home or isolation orders that may affect you or members of your family.
As a school we have a detailed plan about what happens if we have any community transmission of COVID-19 in Tasmania again.
During these still uncertain times I ask all of our community to not be complacent about the risks caused by COVID-19, remember the strategies we need to use to keep each other safe and please follow all our school-based management measures if you are on our site for any reason.
Thank you for your co-operation.
College Productions
Last Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending opening night of Launceston College’s Production “Grease”. It certainly was a spectacular show and I sat very proud watching so many ex Kings Meadows students performing with beaming smiles and confidence on stage. Congratulations to all involved.
Newstead College open their Production of “Legally Blonde” later this week and we wish the team all the best for their season, especially our past KMHS students. It is wonderful to see our students shine!
Warm regards
