GRADE 8 DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY:
Students in Grade 8 Design and Technology have recently finished a drink coaster project. For this project, students were required to use veneers of Tasmanian timbers, including the highly desired Huon Pine which were glued onto MDF squares. Students could design any pattern on top of their coaster following a chosen theme, with some choosing to use the laser engraver to embellish their project. Students also built a nifty little holder to keep their coasters in. Along the way, students completed theoretical work identifying the six different types of Tasmanian timbers used and explaining the benefits of working with veneer.
