To conclude the school year we held our Presentation Assembly last Thursday, the Year 10 Celebration Dinner at the Country Club Resort last Friday night and our final assembly was yesterday. Congratulations to all students who were recognised through prizes and awards. Best wishes to our Year 10 students in the next stage of their learning pathway and life journey ahead. Thank you to our prize donors, families who supported these events and to our guest speaker, Ben Simpson for sharing his inspirational story with us.
Today is our end of year school picnic at Bridport. This provides a great opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate the year in a relaxed environment. I hope everyone enjoys the day and stays sun safe while at the beach. Thank you to Jake Chamberlain and Brenton Gale for co-ordinating the excursion.
On Friday December 9 we held our Big Day Out & Healthy Me Expo. This was the first year that the two events were combined and based on how the day went, I think this was a positive decision. This event involves suspending our regular timetable for part of the day and enables students to participate in a variety of activities with their peer group. The day was also well supported by a variety of businesses and organisations who ran stalls with a range of health messages for students and other interesting information. In addition, some of the 2023 student leaders ran the barbeque and some food vans were available too. A highlight of the day was the staff versus students netball match, with the staff coming out on top this year. Thank you to staff, students and our broader school community for contributing to the day and a particular thank you to teachers, Emma Dobson and George Edmondson for co-ordinating the event.
As the school year finishes, we must farewell some staff. Rachael Stebbings joined us part way through the year and she will be moving on to Prospect High School. Hugh Bowden and Wendy Coombes have both been with us this year and they will be moving interstate. Brenton Gale will be returning to Port Dalrymple after a about a year and a half of great service as part of the leadership team. Amy Jansen will also be leaving us after three years to take up a teaching role in the private sector. We also farewell Alice Watson who has been with us as an Education Facility Attendant (EFA) this year and Nick Bennett and Ella Mainsbridge who have made significant contributions as Teacher Assistants. I also wish to advise that Katie Wightman has been selected for the permanent Principal position at Waverley Primary School and therefore will not be returning to us. Congratulations Katie! Tracey MacFarlane will be taking some long service leave and then retiring. At the time of writing, I am still awaiting official correspondence but understand Tom Hartley will be taking up a secondment to the University of Tasmania for two years. I thank all these staff for their contribution to our school and wish them well in the next stage of their life. I would particularly like to acknowledge Tracey’s outstanding service to our school and to the Department for Education, Children and Young People, in general. Over the course of her career, she has influenced hundreds, if not thousands of students and has been a stalwart of our foods area over the past 15 years. Farewell, thank you and best wishes.
Looking ahead to 2023, our administration office will be open from Monday January 16 and students return to school on Wednesday February 8. It is also worth noting that Term 1 next year is slightly shorter and Term 2 slightly longer than the normal 10 weeks. For those planning holidays or care arrangements, the end of Term 1 break commences for students on Thursday April 6 (as this day is a Professional Learning Day for staff) and they return the day after ANZAC Day (April 25), on Wednesday April 26.
There is no doubt that it has been a somewhat different year, particularly in Term 1 and 2 due to the COVID pandemic. Nevertheless, we have got through the disruption and probably even learned some things along the way. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our school this year. To those staff, students and families who are moving on, we wish you well. I hope everyone has an enjoyable and relaxing summer break. Please stay safe over the holiday period. I look forward to seeing everyone in 2023 for another big year at Kings Meadows High School.
Regards,
Cary Stocks
Principal

Celebrations
As the end of the year quickly approaches, students in Year 7 have been given some fantastic opportunities to say farewell to 2022 in style. On Friday 9 December our Year 7 students engaged in the ‘Healthy Me’ Expo, where local businesses and organisations who are involved in wellbeing opened stalls and explained to the students what their organisations did and fielded questions from the students. Many of the stalls had interactive displays and giveaway items and the students found it to be an extremely beneficial experience. We would like to extend a big thank you to the teachers and student leaders who helped run and plan this event.
Also on Friday 9 December, Kings Meadows High School ran its annual ‘Big Day Out’ for 2022. This event was combined with our Healthy Me Expo, to make an extra special day for our students. Students were treated to a range of outdoor activities and were entertained by musicians. There was also the chance for students to purchase food from the food vans in attendance. It was a sunny afternoon and teachers and students alike thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Again, a thank you to the staff and school leaders who assisted on the day and made it a success. This week we also had our annual school picnic to Bridport. The focus for the day was around celebration, connecting with one another and having fun. Traditionally this has been a brilliant day which all students really value and enjoy.
As we head into our last week of term, we would like to thank our Year 7 families for their ongoing support throughout the course of the year. Transitioning to high school can be a significant challenge at times for our students. It has been a challenging time but also one for growth, aspiration and courage. As our students transition out of Year 7 and into Year 8 we encourage them to reflect on their year and set some goals ready for 2023.
The final Year 7 newsletter report would not be complete without thanking a multitude of people. Firstly, I would like to thank our Year 7 Class Teachers: Mr Dylan Warren 7A, Mr Sam Maddern 7B, Miss Steph Sheedy 7C, Mrs Joh Breen 7D, Mr Tom Hartley 7E and Mrs Jess Crawford 7F for going above and beyond in their roles as class teachers to our Year 7 students. I know our students really appreciate all they have done for them this year. Thank you also to Miss Emily Lovegrove for supporting our Year 7 students this year and for your work as our Quality Teaching Coach for our staff. Mrs Kate Hume, Mrs Katie Wightman and Mr Cary Stocks have been the ever-present guidance and support to our students as they progressed through the year at Kings Meadows High School. Mrs Wightman nurtured us through transition and the first two terms and Miss Hume and Mr Stocks have been with us every step of the way. Their professionalism, care and dedication in supporting our students has been exceptional, thank you.
Finally, to our Grade Leaders Mr Sean Stevenson and Mr Daniel Richardson. Thank you for guiding our students throughout this year, your care and concern for our students and your wonderful organisation have been an asset to our grade. They are both much loved members of our Grade and the hours of time they have given to our students has been most appreciated. We sadly say goodbye to Mr Richardson for 2023 as he will be guiding the 2023 Year 7 students as their Grade Leader. Goodluck, Mr Richardson you will be fantastic!
Overall, the 2022 school year has come and gone in a flash and we all are looking forward to Year 8 next year. On behalf of the Year 7 team, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you all in 2023!

Celebrations
With the end of 2022 quickly approaching, staff and students have been busy wrapping up units for the end of the year. It is great to see so many students remaining engaged in their learning right up until the last days of Term 4 as there is still important content that teachers need to cover. Congratulations to all of the Year 8 students who received awards at our end of term assemblies, it is excellent for teachers to be able to recognise those students who have performed particularly strongly and have adhered to our ROCKS expectations throughout the year. Special mentions to Iris Alberti who was the Year 8 Dux for 2022 and to Stephanie Watson who was our True Blue recipient for Term 4. To all students who received certificates of merit and certificates for outstanding academic results, you continue to make us proud with your application to our school.
Grade Focus
On the last day of term, Year 8 students are joining students from Years 7 and 9 for our annual beach day at Bridport. Students are being encouraged to remain focussed on following our ROCKS expectations between then and now and to remember that when we are out in the community, we are representing our school and as such, must make sure that we are on our best behaviour.

Students have been handed reports for the year. We encourage families to look over them carefully and please get in touch with teachers if there are any questions.

Celebrations
Year 10 has been one big celebration over the past few weeks. We have enjoyed a very special night together at our Graduation Dinner, where our students looked amazing and danced, laughed, reminisced and shared a meal together. The Presentation and Graduation Assemblies were also highlights, with many of our students being recognised for their myriad of achievements this year.
A number of our students have secured apprenticeships and traineeships for next year; a big congratulations to those people!
Most of all, we would like to celebrate 4 wonderful years together and the amount of personal growth that each and every single one of our students has experienced. It is a rare privilege to lead a group of students from their first day of Year 7 to their final day of Year 10, and we could not be more proud of the amazing young adults they have become.
Mr Stokes and I would also like to thank the incredible teachers who have supported them along the way and all of you – the parents and carers of these wonderful human beings. Thanks for trusting us with your kids – we know that they are your whole universe and we are grateful that you have trusted us to play a small part in this chapter of their lives.
Grade Focus
When I sat down to think of a ‘focus’ for our wonderful grade as they enter the next chapter of their lives, I couldn’t think of a better way to sum it up than this excerpt from the Graduation Assembly speech, written by Mr. Stokes…
As you reach this part of your life, where you are moving towards an exciting future onto a wide variety of pathways, whether that be college, further education, an apprenticeship or traineeship, it is important to remember all of the valuable lessons that you have learned so far and how you can use those to be the most successful person that you can be. Regardless of what pathway your life takes you on, it is so important that you make a positive impact on our world and leave with a legacy that you are proud of. Ensure that you cherish the relationships with your friends and family as having a support network around you when life takes an unexpected turn is crucial. Continue to build on your resilience, as the ability to tackle challenges and bounce back will hold you in good stead to face some of life’s bigger challenges along the way. Continue to set goals, and work towards whatever future you want for yourself and dream big. Nothing is out of reach for you and you will only achieve those dreams if you continue to take steps towards them, not matter how big or how small those steps are. Remember that life will throw curve balls at you along the way and that is part of the adventure. Some of these will be challenging, some of these will lead to a better outcome, but in the end it will lead you to where you need to be in your life. On behalf of the Kings Meadows High School community, we wish you all the best as you move towards the next stage of your lives. We have been so lucky to work with such a strong, positive, conscientious and compassionate group of students and we can’t wait to hear about all of your achievements in your futures.
Best of luck, Year 10 - we adore you and we are going to miss you so much.
