Dear Parents/Guardians
As I pen this last newsletter for the year I smile as I reflect over the last couple of weeks, this last term and the school year that has now concluded and feel incredibly proud of another stellar year at Kings Meadows High School. Last week at the Grade 10 Celebration Dinner I spoke about our wonderful school, and proudly referred to it as THE BEST SCHOOL! I truly believe we have an outstanding place to work and learn in every day and that Kings Meadows High School continues to be a leader in standards of public education for Northern Tasmania. Some may say I am biased or that I am compelled to say that as Principal but if you had the opportunity to sit at either our Presentation Assembly or Graduation Assemblies this week you would know why I confidently refer to our school this way.
On Monday at our Presentation Assembly we witnessed a record number of students receive awards for their outstanding achievements and contributions to our school. I would like to thank all the wonderful sponsors and donors of these awards for continuing to support our school and our amazing students. Thank you also to our guest speaker Mrs Tara Howell who spoke about her journey that has led to much success already with the Blue Derby Pod Business and Change Overnight Hotel. Congratulations to all recipients (please see the list in the newsletter) and a huge thank you to Miss Kate Blaubaum for the exceptional co-ordination of this assembly. Special thanks also to Mrs Robyn Ponting and the administration team.
As mentioned, the Graduation Dinner was held last Thursday at the County Club and it was another beautiful celebration occasion for our students. The students were impeccably and sophisticatedly attired and their behaviour matched. Everyone had a fantastic evening. Special thanks to the Grade 10 Team and Mrs Pam McGifford for all their work in coordinating the dinner.
Today we farewelled our Grade 10s at their Beacon Charter Signing Graduation Assembly. This was another wonderful assembly where our students were acknowledged and received their Graduation certificates, signed their Beacon Charter pledge and fondly farewelled. Guest speakers Ms Laura Turner – ex KMHS student and now international pilot for Jetstar and Mr David Cox - Hawthorn AFL Tasmania State Manager, certainly inspired all our students with their addresses and we certainly wish all our Grade 10 students all the very best for their futures.
My Education
Our last My Education day for the year was once again a fantastic day across all grade areas as they continued their thorughlines guided by our clear Scope and Sequence.
The day also saw our Healthy Me expo presented in the gymnasium throughout the day. All grades had the opportunity to go through the expo and we had many presenters from a huge variety of organisations including, Cancer Council, Oral Health, Headspace, YMCA, The Salvation Army, Animal Rescue, the LC Virtual Reality encounter just to name a few, all providing valuable information and activities for all students to gather and participate in. A huge thank you to the Peer Support Leaders and Mrs Belinda Selby for all their work in co-ordinating. My Education continues to be an important focus for us at KMHS in assisting our students with their career and life planning and we look forward to those continued partnerships with all industry and business and the Beacon Foundation.
Big Day Out/Kings Culture Week
On Friday 6th December we saw the culmination of Kings Culture week with The Big Day Out. Our senior leadership students have done an outstanding job this year in co-ordinating and leading a variety of events for all students to be involved in throughout the year and the Kings Culture Week activities that the Prefect Board have undertaken throughout each term have been fun and fabulous. They worked in conjunction with our House Captains last Friday to run the Big Day Out - another annual event that is very much enjoyed by all. The atmosphere on the day was relaxed and a celebratory vibe across all grades as we took the time to enjoy the activities provided including the now famous Water Slide activity. Thank you to all involved.
Our Leadership Groups this year have been outstanding; our Prefects, Peers Support Leaders, House Captains and Beacon Student Ambassadors have all excelled in their roles to ensure that we continue to have student voice, strong student leadership and activities and events in our school throughout the year. Their support of each other, students and other charity organisations has been wonderful and I commend them all and thank them on behalf of the school community.
Congratulations to:
- Our Senior Girls basketball team for winning their Grand Final 2 weeks ago in the NHSSA Finals. Congratulations girls. Thanks again to Miss Males for your continued support of this team and basketball in our school.
- Abbie Butler for winning the National Under 16 Steeplechase race earlier this month at the Australian National Championships. Abbie ran a time that places her fastest in Australia (both U16 and U18 time) and 16th in world rankings.
- Ashtyn Peters for being selected in the Tasmanian U/15 Indoor Hockey Team to compete at the Nationals in Wollongong in January.
- Charlotte Layton on her selection in the Tasmanian U/18 Womens Cricket Team to represent Tasmanian in January.
- Phoebe Withington has been selected again in the Tasmanian U/18 Indoor Hockey Team competing in Wollongong and she has also been selected in the U/18 Tasmanian squad.
- Ali Ahmad Noroozi for being selected to participate in a 10-day Voyage on the Windward bound sailing ship. Currently Ali is at sea undertaking this amazing experience.
- Mrs Wendy Dalton, our wonderful Business Manager, who has been successful in her application on the school’s behalf for a Local Schools Community Fund Grant. We will receive $17,000.00 which will go towards upgrading of some playground equipment. Thank you and congratulations to Mrs Dalton.
Staffing News
As always at this time of the year we farewell some staff. I would like to thank the following staff for their contributions to our school during their tenure with us and wish them all the very best for the future:
Mrs Karen Williams, Mrs Rebecca Rockliff, Mr Heath Hodgetts, Miss Caitlyn McCarthy, Mrs Jennifer Copeland and Mr Tim Elliott.
Mr Roger Lockhart one of our loved Educational Facility Attendants will be retiring at the end of the year and we wish him all the best for his retirement and thank him for his loyal service.
Finally, we farewell Ms Helen Burley and Mrs Sharon Geale who have both been at KMHS for a lengthy period of time. I know I speak on behalf of all the school community when I sincerely thank them for their many years of service and wish them all the best for their future roles.
Bus Route Changes
Please note that there will be some changed routes to Metro services in the new year. For more information please copy and paste the link below:

New Mobile Phone Policy
As many people would be aware the Department of Education have announced a new policy for mobile phones to be introduced in the new year. As a school we have decided to implement these changes at the beginning of the year to avoid confusion and ensure clarity right from the beginning of the year.
The key elements of this policy include:
- Schools must implement restrictions on the use of mobile phones by all students from the time they arrive at school to the end of the school day. All communication with students during the school day must be through the school office.
Schools must implement the following rules for students:
- Kindergarten - Year 12: Students must have their mobile phones switched off and securely stored during the school day. Schools must determine an appropriate storage approach (of which we have very secure lockers for students to use).
- Schools must require students with ‘smart watches’ to set them to ‘aeroplane mode’.
Where restrictions are not followed by students, schools will utilise their existing school behaviour management policy.
This will be a state-wide policy and we are obliged to implement by Term 2. We will be beginning from the start of the school year and appreciate in advance full family support.
Farewell Grade 10s
Farewell and congratulations to all our Grade 10 students as you transition to the next stage of your learning. We know that KMHS has prepared you well and we encourage you to continue to be aspirational, have the courage to embrace new opportunities and challenge yourselves, be kind and respectful, laugh and keep on learning. KMHS will always welcome you.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone in our school community for their ongoing support of our magnificent school. We have had another outstanding year and continue to go from strength to strength as a school due to this support and commitment of those who work and contribute each and every day to KMHS.
I sincerely wish everyone a happy Christmas period and restful and relaxing break.

Celebrations
As the year is coming to a close, we thought it would be nice for teachers on the Grade 7 team to reflect on their favourite moments and memories from the year that was! Here are our responses.
Favourite Memory from Grade 7, 2019:
Mr Stevenson – Spending time with students at the Punchbowl Picnic and getting to know everyone.
Mr Withington – I enjoyed camp, seeing students overcoming their fears and working together on the giant swing. Also, 'Big Day Out' was lots of fun. I liked seeing how relationships have grown and matured over the year.
Mr Heger – Taking a group of Grade 7 students to the Devonport Triathlon and feeling really proud of their hard work and positive attitudes.
Miss McCarthy – Doing ‘Lollies in Space’ artwork with students and seeing their excitement when they saw them displayed in the Grade 7 block.
Miss Hart - My favourite moments from 2019 are doing gallery walks in Art and feeling so proud of all the amazing work my Grade 7s have done.
Mr Stokes – I liked the collaboration during the decoration of the classrooms – the Battle of the Classes challenge. Loved seeing the way the classes worked together.
Mr Richardson – My favourite memory was making bon bons on our My Education day! I also loved seeing our 7C students cooking pancakes for Canada as part of our Battle of the Classes challenge.
Mrs Dobson – My favourite memory from this year, and one which will certainly stick with me, is spending time with the staff and students on Grade 7 camp. I remember feeling really lucky that we would get to spend the year with such a great group of people!
Grade Focus
Finishing off the year positively, and having a great time at the Bridport Picnic!
Upcoming events
19 December - Grade 7, 8 and 9 picnic at Bridport - last day for students.
Celebrations
It has made for pleasant reading going through the Grade 8 reports over the last couple of weeks. Significant improvement has been made in academic achievement, student engagement and following the school ROCKS values over the course of the year. This is best represented by the high standards required to achieve recognition in our end of year academic awards.
Students had an excellent time at the Big Day Out and it was lovely to see so many positive interactions across a wide variety of social groups amongst the grade. Thank you to Mr Heger and the House Prefects for organising such a wonderful afternoon. It isn’t often we get to shut the school down just to engage in having some fun – something we perhaps need to do more of to help engage our students.
The Grade 8s also had opportunity to engage with the “Healthy Me, Healthy You” expo on our last My Education day. The students were able to interact with a wide variety of strategies to assist their own mental health – thank you to Mrs Selby and the Peer Support Leaders for organising the event.
Grade Focus
Having a safe and happy holidays.
Upcoming events
19 December - Grade 7, 8 and 9 Picnic at Bridport - students last day.
A message from Mr Elliott:
At time of writing, it looks as if this will be my last Grade Report for the newsletter as my time has come to a conclusion here at Kings Meadows High School. It would be remiss of me to not take this opportunity to thank the students for engaging so positively with me from my first day at school and the parents for trusting me with the care of their children whilst trusting me to make the best possible decision to support their child’s learning. A thanks also goes to the staff who have assisted me when required and shown me the Kings Meadows way of doing things. Particular thanks to Mr Hartley and Mrs Wightman who I have worked so closely with in helping manage the Grade 8 cohort on a daily basis. Finally to Mrs Pinnington, thank you for having the confidence to bring me to KMHS and the support you have shown my family and myself over the last 12 months.
Up the Meadows!!!

Thank you to our team for all of the hours you have spent and all the hard work you have put in to make this year such a successful one. Thank you for your patience, resilience and positive attitude throughout the year, your commitment is commended.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
Another great achievement from Abbie Butler at the National Athletics titles in Perth. Abbie won her first national medal (gold) in the 2000m Steeplechase and backed up the next day finishing 9th in the 3000m. Well Done Abbie a fantastic achievement.
Paige Gibson and Ashia Stanley were involved in the Launceston College Dance Fever GRIT. This is a huge commitment for the girls who have been rehearsing since the beginning of Term 2. It was a fantastic Show! Great work girls’ wonderful ambassadors for KMHS.
Alex Jordan is congratulated on winning the Senior T20 cricket final with Longford - fielding really well.
Summer Kelly is commended on her efforts and driving us to become a more sustainable school.
F1 RED SPRITE RACERS:
After having come away from our last F1 in Schools competition as State Champions, the Red Sprites Racing Team is preparing for the National Finals in March of 2020.
Our current focus is on publicity in the aim of making our name a known one. This will help as we continue to contact businesses around Tasmania and even around the world in hope of receiving material, mentorship or financial support. We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the team over the past few years and also mention our sponsors which made our journey to winning the State final possible - Island Block and Paving, Definium Technologies, Reece Plumbing, Think Big, Tamar River Cruises, Wyllie Tiles, YMCA and Chilli FM.
If you would like to hear more about the competition, follow us on Instagram @redspritesracing or send us an email at redspritescbce@gmail.com.
Grade Focus
Term 4 student leaders are focusing on their transition to leadership in 2020 with shadowing days and an official handover. On our My Education days the theme with student consultation was investigating SUSTAINABILITY and making positive choices and contributions on meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The Grade 9s worked in various groups throughout the day and being involved in activities including making bees wax wraps, worm farms, plant propagation, tree planting, irrigation, paper making and video recording and photography. Well done to the Grade on some outstanding days!
Upcoming events
19 December - Grade 7, 8 and 9 Picnic at Bridport - last day for students.
Finally the Grade 9 team would like to wish all families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to all students returning in 2020 after a restful break.
Celebrations
As always our Grade 10 students have continued to make some outstanding achievements right up until the end of the year.
Congratulations must go to Caitlin Jordan (10A) and Abbie Watt (10A). Both Caitlin and Abbie are members of ‘AllStar Cheer and Dance’ and recently competed at nationals in Melbourne. It is fantastic to see both girls take make the most of opportunities that are presented to them outside of school. Congratulations to Abbie’s team Odin who were named National Champions.
Our sporting success continues with Charlotte Layton (10E) being named in the U/18 women’s state cricket team and will be travelling to Hobart and Launceston for games in January. Charlotte is certainly making an impact on the pitch at the moment, congratulations on your achievement, we are looking forward to seeing more future cricket success from you.
Phoebe Withington (10C) has also been named in the State U/18 Indoor Hockey team and has made the squad for the U/18 Outdoor team. She will be travelling to Wollongong for the indoor tournament. Well done Phoebe, such a fantastic achievement.
Another budding sporting star, Sam Talbot (10B) last weekend ran in the Stan Siejka Launceston Cycling classic ‘St Luke’s 5k Running Challenge’. This is an invitation only, handicap event open to elite runners across Tasmania. Well done Sam for gaining an invite, it was certainly an entertaining race.
Last week our Prefect’s held their final ‘Kings’ Culture Week’ a whole week full of lunchtime activities to help celebrate the end of the year. This is the third term in a row that the Prefects have run these activity weeks at school and is a fantastic initiative that we hope will continue next year. The Prefects then teamed with the House Captains to host ‘Kings Big Day Out’ on Friday afternoon. This was a fun filled afternoon of food vans, activities, music and a staff vs students basketball game. Well done, this was a well-executed and organised event. Congratulations to both leadership teams.
The Prefects have been working hard on their canteen refurbishment, but would like to acknowledge the hard work of Jessica Hunter (10A) and Hayley McCubbin (10A). Both Jess and Hayley have been working together to create a series of mural windows which will be hung in the Canteen as part of the Prefects' legacy gift. They have taken much time and care throughout this project and we look forward to seeing the end products.
Finally the Grade 10 teaching team would like to thank the our Grade 10 students for a fantastic Celebration Dinner which was held last Thursday night at the Country Club Casino. It was certainly a night to remember with speeches made by Kaiden Page (10A), Angie Collins (10D), Makala Bingley (10B), Eliza Matthews (10D), Matthew Beechey (10E) and Akbar Rajab Ali (10A). We hope students and staff had an enjoyable evening.
Grade Focus
On behalf of the Grade 10 teaching team we would like to wish our Grade 10 students an enjoyable last week as students at Kings Meadows High School. It has been an incredible four years watching our students grow not only in height, but in confidence and knowledge. Thank you for the contributions you have made to our grade, school and community. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours, you are now ready to take the next step.
For our last Literacy Legend segment for the year, we thought it would be great to celebrate some of the awesome work the Grade 8s have been doing in their current 'Ballad' unit. After learning about the language and structural features of this form of poetry, the students were challenged to write their own ballad. Here are some examples of their work. Please enjoy!
Black Friday Fires
It was January 13 1939, the middle of a summer dry and hot
The droughts came and the wind blew a lot
It was quiet in Uriarra station with not even a stir
But when the smoke came it all turned to a blur
When the first tree sparked the bush caught ablaze
And the state of Victoria turned into a craze
The fires spread ever so fast
Then they burned up all of the dry grass
The fires are getting closer to the trees
But when the hose turns on we’ll be put on our knees
The water starts and the fires spit
The blaze is out and smokes quite a bit
Everything is gone, it’s burnt to the floor
The only thing that remains is our metal front door
The metal on the floor which was once a home
Looks like it was hit by a catastrophic cyclone
‘The koalas are dying’ the vet explained
‘There’s nothing we can do even though we’re highly trained’
‘They are burnt and bleeding and in lots of pain’
‘Nothing could have saved them, nothing but the rain
The fires stopped, our work is done
It lasted forever but we have finally won
We gathered our equipment and rolled up our hose
We never wanted the fires to start but that’s just how it goes
Everything was burnt, the grass is black
Burnt to the ground are things we can never get back
The sky was still smoky and dark
The ground was covered by charcoaled tree bark
The hospitals were full and resources were low
Seventy one lives lost, burnt from head to toe
The shelters overflowed like never before
The now homeless people covered the floor
It’s time to rebuild, now the fires are gone
The smoke has cleared and we can finally see dawn
Seven hundred homes destroyed, there’s so much now to do
But a community united will stick together like glue
We can never escape the flames, there always here
When summer comes they will be near
We will rise from the ashes all big and grand
Together as one in this ‘Great Southern Land’

Donald Bradman
Donald Bradman, named by his dad
Knew he was poor but embraced what he had
Grew up in a town in New South Wales
Made lots of runs, had no fails
Donald Bradman, born in 1908
To find out he would be an Aussie great
Donald Bradman, elite even when he was young
Grew up to bat an average of almost a tonne
Started off with a golf ball and stump
Taught him how to hit the ball with a thump
Donald Bradman, in the hall of fame
Made so many runs, he can’t be to blame
Donald Bradman, had a unique style
Started off disliked, but loved after a while
Donald Bradman, brother to four
And if you asked him, he wished he had more
Donald Bradman, high score of 334
If he didn’t get out he would’ve made more
Donald Bradman, retired after 50 years
Made lots of mates, shared lots of beers
Donald Bradman, destroyed England’s team
While they were trying to bowl like steam
He was making runs with a smile on his face
And after looking at his strike rate, we know he did it at a slow pace
Donald Bradman, world’s number one
Started off, with just having some fun
Donald Bradman, played with finesse
So good, it was hard not to impress
We remember his style
And we will for a while
We talk about him every day
So in our memories he must stay
Donald Bradman, record breaker at age 22
Unfortunately for us he died in 2002
Donald Bradman, went down a legend
I hope his career went down as he imagined
Donald Bradman, an Australian hero
The legend hardly ever made zero
Donald Bradman, we love you with all out heart
Thank you, for always doing your part.

Blind Johnny’s Bluff
Johnny was a fat kid
As fat as he was tall
We used to play tricks on him
Until he took a fall.
When we thought he had enough
Usually we were wrong
Because for a fat kid
He was incredibly strong.
Johnny never fought back
Even when they pinned him down
Then they tore off all his clothes
And made him walk through town.
Then on one fateful day
The older kids were smoking
They asked him to play blind man’s bluff
We thought they might be joking.
Before he could reply
Or maybe even protest
They put a blindfold on his eyes
And he walked up to the crest.
Then all of us goaded him
To walk right off the crest
And poor unlucky Johnny
Put his neck right to the test.
And poor unfortunate Johnny
Even though he was quite strong
If anyone thought he would make it
They were incredibly wrong.
The police came a’running
And an ambulance as well
But Johnny’s dad was faster
And his tears could fill a well.
None of us said a word
Our faces solemn and grim
But inside we were guilty
Because we helped kill him.

The Ballad of Phar Lap
Australia was in a tragic state
Rich in poverty, and heading towards a bad fate
Until one day a horse arrived
He would soon be the reason our tears were dried
None really saw him for all that much
An average colt he seemed
They didn’t know he would be their crutch
Or that his potential for racing would soon be redeemed
‘Phar Lap’ was the big chestnut horse’s name
All the way from his birthplace New Zealand he came
David J Davis bought and loved him so
And in return Phar Lap would put on a great show
‘Bet on Phar Lap, he always wins!’
‘Have you seen Phar Lap? He’s taller than me!’
The people would say, all smiles and grins
For the first time in a while they felt happy and free
Harry Telford trained him to be the best race horse around
Fastest in the world, the title he was crowned
But all of those records that Phar Lap broke
Would soon be the reason that Phar Lap would croak
Since Phar Lap was the best, David thought nothing could go wrong
He thought Phar Lap should be greater
He thought this is what he’d been destined all along
Since Phar Lap was so famed and loved, he’d take him to America
All of Australia begged him ‘please don’t go!’
‘Oh Phar Lap, how we love you so!’
They sensed that it would not end well
But they had no choice but to bid him farewell
Amongst Phar Lap’s crowd of fans
Some saw him as competition
And so when he fell into the wrong hands
They broke his winning reputation
No one knows how Phar Lap died
Unravel the mystery, oh how we’ve tried
He collapsed outside a farm in 1932
When Australia heard they couldn’t believe it was true
Phar Lap the horse who gave us hope
Phar Lap with his heart of gold
Phar Lap the horse who helped us cope
Phar Lap the horse whose story will always be told.

On behalf of the 2019 Prefect Board we would like to thank the students, staff and community that have supported us and our fundraisers throughout the year. Our events could not have been successful without all of you and we greatly appreciate your support shown.
At this stage, in our legacy gift of refurbishing the canteen, the murals are currently being painted and the new furniture for the canteen has been ordered and will arrive early next year. We are excited to provide students with a new, vibrant and relaxing environment to hang out in at break times and are proud that we have been able to contribute to refurbishing spaces for our present and future students. The fundraisers towards our legacy gift include: Twin Day, Trivia Night, selling fundraising chocolates, hosting a canteen at Term 1 Drama Night and Kings’ Culture Week Activities. We all received a grant from the Launceston City Council which has gone towards the painting of our murals each of which promote a sustainability message.
As the 2019 Prefect Board we have proudly held a number of events to support local charities including: The Leukaemia Foundation through The World’s Greatest Shave and The Great Coin Line Challenge, Bandana Day supporting CanTeen and ‘Sun’ Day ‘Fun’ Day raising awareness and money for the Cancer Council Tasmania. We also promoted positive mental health within our school and community through marking ‘R U OK Day?’ and volunteering at the Launceston Lions Club ‘Daffodil Day’ event. We were fortunate enough to be invited to attend a number of events in our community including: GRIP Leadership Conference, ANZAC Day services in Launceston, Perth, Evandale and Longford, Remembrance Day at the Longford Cenotaph, Lions Club of Kings Meadows Meeting, Inspiring Women in Leadership Luncheon, International Women’s Day, KMHS School Association Meetings and 2020 Grade 7 Transition Parent Information Evenings. Within our school we have held ‘Kings’ Culture Week’, a whole week dedicated to providing students with fun activities at lunchtimes to promote positive school culture and celebrate the end of each term and contributed to the running of ‘Kings’ Big Day Out’ working together with the House Captains during Term 4. It has certainly been a busy year and we are grateful for the opportunities we have been able to take advantage of and contribution we have made to our local community.
A huge thank you once again to those who have supported us throughout this year. We would like to mention a few people who have been crucial in success this year - Mrs Gibbons, Mrs Ponting, Mrs Rigby, Mrs Dalton, Mrs Pinnington, Jaqui Howard, Jessica Hunter, Hayley McCubbin, Emma Magnusson-Reid, Anita Gorham and Mrs Wightman. Thank you for your ongoing advice and support of the Prefect Board, none of our events would have been possible without the input of these people.
We would also like to thank the many businesses who have donated goods towards our events and fundraisers. Unfortunately there are too many to name, however we have acknowledged their contributions in previous newsletter articles and also sent them thank you cards. It is so fantastic that our community can come together and support one another to make positive change.
We would like to wish good luck to the 2020 Prefect Board, we hope you’re successful with your future endeavours and carry out the C-Cubed Principle (Culture Courage & Creativity) next year. We know you’ll do great things for our school and community.

This year 6 students represented KMHS as part of Launceston College’s Dance Fever – GRIT. On Thursday 28th November all dance students attended one of the 6 performances at the Door of Hope. They were treated to a wide variety of dance performances from huge ensemble numbers, to solos and duets as well as dances performed in a variety of styles from Hip Hop to Broadway, Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary. It was amazing to see the Kings Meadows students feature so highly in many of the pieces. They had a busy and exhausting week and they did themselves and the school proud. Congratulations go to Paige Gibson, Aisha Stanley, Angie Collins, Abbie Watt, Eliza Matthews and Caitlin Jordan.
On Thursday 5th December it was the final My Education Day of the year. As part of this, the Peer Support Leaders organised the Healthy Me Expo. This Expo was available for each Grade to access for a one hour block during the day. It was designed to promote organisations and agencies in the community which young people can access. This promotion is centred around the idea of making healthy choices for their mind, body and soul. This year Launceston College brought along their Virtual Reality equipment to run a mindfulness VR experience. The ever popular Zorb Ball soccer was run by the YMCA and was chance to let students blow off steam. Students were able to make their own stress balls both with the Migrant Resource Centre and Relationships Australia. There was a games and reading chill-out zone, Teen Challenge ran a drug knowledge quiz for lollipops and a guess the lolly jar competition, The Cancer Council ran games and challenges. The Salvation army were busy all day with glitter tattoos and badge making. Other exhibitors included Kimbal McMahon who instructed people on their energy levels, Youth Health bought the popular massage chairs and giant Jenga, Gideons and Family Planning gave valuable guidance when visited by the students. The Peer Support Team would like to thank each and every exhibitor who came and took part in the Expo. It is an event the students and staff really enjoy every year and it was excellent to see everyone engage so highly and take advantage of everything that was on offer. Congratulations to everyone involved.
BUNNINGS BBQ FUNDRAISER (SCHOOL ASSOCIATION):
It was perfect weather for a BBQ on the day of our Bunnings fundraiser. We managed to raise over $1,000.00. A fantastic effort!
Many thanks to all those who contributed to making the day such a success, including Banjo’s Meadow Mews, JJ’s Bakery Longford, JBS Meats and all the volunteers from the school community.
On behalf of the School Association I would like to wish everyone a safe holiday season and a new year of happiness and good health.
